Cluster Of Bug Bites
How to Tell If You Have Been Bitten by A Bedbug Or Chigger
Cynthia Taylor Chavoustie MPAS. PA-C Natalie Gold. There are two possible culprits: chiggers or bed bugs. These parasites live on the blood of animals or people.
Their bites may look similar, but bed bugs and chiggers live in much different environments. Bed bug and chigger bites, while annoying and bothersome, aren’t dangerous for your overall health.
live near sleeping quarters. You may find evidence of bed bugs if you notice brown or red spots on your sheets. You might also notice a sweet, musty smell if there are bed bugs nearby.
The cluster-forming nature of Chiggers is what makes them so attractive. They can latch onto your body for several hours to days, if they are not removed by washing or scratching. They may be felt on the skin but you won’t see them due to their small size.
How to Identify Bug Bites
It is not always simple to recognize a bug bite. The symptoms may also vary depending upon the bite. Dr. Serbousek said that no matter what type of bug it was, bites can have similar symptoms such as redness and pain. Bed bugs, ticks, mosquitos and chiggers are all common insect bites. The following tips will assist you in identifying the type and severity of the bite.
The bites of bed bugs can be quite severe. You should look out for clusters of bite marks on your neck, face, arms and hands, particularly after you have slept. Itchy bites that resemble bites from mosquitoes can appear slightly reddened and itchy. Some individuals don’t have a reaction and are able to ignore bite marks. The symptoms of bedbug bites can be delayed and may take several weeks. You won’t get sick from bed bugs.
Mosquito bites. You may notice a reddish, slightly swelling area. It can be both itchy and annoying and usually occurs within minutes of the bite. Mosquitos spread disease including Zika virus, West Nile Virus, malaria, Chikungunya virus and dengue.
Chiggers bites. Although they usually bite in large groups, they may also bite on the stomach or under the skin. The chiggers can cause reddening of the skin, blisters and hives-like symptoms. Chiggers can’t transmit disease, and they aren’t considered dangerous.
Dr. Serbousek said that only a few bee bites could cause an allergic reaction, which can then lead to an uncontrolled condition known as anaphylactic stress. Anaphylactic shock can cause hives and wheezing as well as shortness or abdominal pain. Death could occur if you don’t get the right care. Individuals who are allergic to bee stings should always carry an Epi-Pen with them.”
You can bite sites:
Mosquito bites generally occur in random areas of the body, including legs, head, and back.
The bites of bed bugs are often more concentrated and can sometimes be described as multiple, and in an arranged linear or circular manner. Common places include around the waist, neck, chest area, neck, forehead, chest, armpits, legs and around your crotch.
Signs and Characteristics. A bed bug can’t digest every blood meal that it receives from a host so they may contaminate the sheets of the host. If you find small round, bloody stains on your sheets during the night, it is likely that you have a bedbug infestation.
Both bed bugs and mosquitoes have different hosts. This means that one insect may be more attractive than the other. You should be aware that bed bugs will bite one person asleep but not the other person asleep near them.

They will appear in a line and often cluster near your bed (e.g., the stomach or legs) but they are not able to transmit disease. Even though they can’t spread disease, an infestation within your mattress needs to be eradicated immediately. Once you tackle the critters’ breeding ground, the best way to treat yourself is to avoid scratching; severe scratching can lead to secondary skin infections. “You can also help prevent infection with antiseptic creams or lotions and take an oral antihistamine or use an over-the-counter steroid cream such as Hydrocortisone 1% to help relieve the itching,” says Dr. Taranath.
